The Blue Flame
A Novel by Nathan Shore

Disbarred attorney Ben Hirsch has hit rock bottom. Financially ruined, divorced, and shunned by his colleagues, Hirsch is desperate for a break. A job offer from an old friend, ambitious county prosecutor Kyle Severson, seems like the blessing he needs.
Kyle suspects two brothers, Lionel and Marcus Shaw, are behind a series of crimes plaguing Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Their wealthy and well-connected sister protects them, and they’ve eluded prosecution multiple times. Kyle is desperate to put them behind bars, and he needs an undercover informant to gather evidence the authorities can’t ignore. His hapless friend falls from grace at just the right moment. Driven to atone for his personal failures and help rescue his struggling hometown, Hirsch agrees to Kyle scheme. With little left to lose, he pursues the sociopathic Marcus and cunning Lionel across the rustic landscape of the UP’s Manistique, Delta County, and the Garden Peninsula. Each encounter with the brothers drags him deeper into their morass of crime—with deadly consequences.
The Blue Flame is the story of an ordinary man’s quest for redemption amidst the criminal underworld of rural America.
